January 9 marks the kickoff of the 2023 Colorado State Legislative Session.
Some priorities identified by legislators so far include:
- Talent and workforce development, including adult education, supports for underserved populations, and affordability and access to training and education programs
- Addressing talent and labor gaps in critical industries like education and healthcare
- School funding, including educator pay and institutional funding needs
- School safety
- Business growth and retention
- Housing access and affordability, including water, entitlements, incentives, construction defect litigation, land use, starter homes, homelessness and eviction prevention, and housing density
- Expanding awareness of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC)
- Healthcare access and affordability
As in past years, the RMP Backbone Team will be keeping an eye on legislation impacting the network’s four priority areas.
