Mental Health First Aid Classes – YOUTH MODULE
February 27, 2015 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Become a certified Mental Health First Aider! Just as CPR teaches us how to help an individual suffering from certain medical emergencies, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an evidence-based training that instructs us how to identify, understand and respond to those who are experiencing a behavioral health crisis. The MHFA program is an interactive training that helps individuals recognize risk factors and warning signs for a range of behavioral health problems, and teaches a five-step action plan to provide basic appropriate interventions for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
The MHFA courses are designed for the general public. The MHFA Adult Module covers depression, anxiety disorders, psychosis, and substance use disorders. The MHFA Youth Module covers various mental health challenges common among youth 12 to 18 years of age. Both courses teach the evidence-based five-step action plan to provide basic appropriate interventions for youth and adults experiencing a mental health crisis.
Learn the evidence-based, 5-step action plan:
- Assess for risk of suicide or harm
- Listen non-judgmentally
- Give reassurance and information
- Encourage appropriate professional help
- Encourage self-help and other support strategies
This course is provided FREE of charge for anyone who lives or works in Adams County, thanks to generous support from the Community Reach Center Foundation Board. Otherwise, the registration fee is $35. All participants MUST be registered for a class. “Drop ins” are not permitted. CLICK HERE for the schedule of MHFA classes and registration information.
