This fall, the passage of Issues 5A and 5B for Aurora Public Schools marked a landmark win for the district and our community, reflecting a steadfast commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and opportunities. With 63% of voters in support, Issue 5A will provide an additional $30 million annually, which will fund ongoing capital expenses, such as building maintenance and smaller-scale improvements. This will free up general fund dollars for other crucial needs, including increasing teacher salaries, mental health resources, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
With 74% of voters backing Issue 5B, the bond measure will secure $1 billion to make critical building upgrades. These upgrades include facility repairs, new school construction, and state-of-the-art technology upgrades, benefiting thousands of students across the district.
Our Civic Influencers played a role in achieving this victory. Their efforts—rooted in both personal and peer experiences—brought the importance of these investments to life. Civic Influencers engaged over 165 community members, sharing how these measures will equip students with safe, high-quality learning environments that support academic and career success.
Throughout the campaign, Civic Influencers attended community events, crafted social media content and emails reaching over 2,734 people, and connected with voters over the phone. Their genuine, one-on-one connections helped cut through the noise, illustrating the long-term impact of investing in education.
These victories are more than just wins for Aurora Public Schools; they are steps toward creating brighter futures for our young people. With 5A and 5B in place, we look forward to witnessing the transformation in school environments and opportunities for students throughout Aurora.
