In November 2024, Aurora Public Schools put forth two critical ballot measures—5A (Capital Mill Levy) and 5B (Bond Measure).

These measures represented a significant opportunity to address the critical needs in our schools, which will in turn help us achieve our goal of supporting 71,000 more young people in our community to reach the cradle-to-career milestones that lead to upward mobility by 2030.

What are the challenges these ballot measures aimed to address?

Our ability to help young people thrive is tied directly to the quality of their education and school environments.

Aurora Public Schools is currently facing pressing challenges that directly impact student success:

Without addressing these needs, our ability to reach the 71K target and support young people in achieving critical educational and career milestones will be severely hindered.

How will 5A and 5B help?

Issue 5A: Capital Mill Levy Issue 5B: Bond
By generating $30 million annually, this measure will:

  • Fund ongoing capital expenses, such as building maintenance and smaller-scale improvements
  • Free up general fund dollars for other cruicial needs, including increasing teacher salaries, mental health resources, and CTE programs

Impact on homeowners: If passed, the two measures will result in no net tax increase for Aurora voters.

With $1 billion in funds (without raising taxes), this bond will invest in critical building upgrades, including:

  • Facility repairs, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
  • New school construction to address overcrowding in growing areas
  • State-of-the-art technology upgrades to modernize classrooms, improve learning environments, and increase student engagement
